The story in the Bible began with God creating the heavens and the earth. You can read that post or watch that video in Chapter 1.1.
According to the creation account, the Creator spends the better part of 5 days creating everything we now see.
At this point in the story, earth has been furnished. As wonderful as it was, it still required one final touch. Like any great masterpiece from any great artist, it needed that personal touch, the artist signature, a way to finally mark his creation--US.
IF CREATION IS THE WORK OF AN ARTIST, WE ARE HIS SIGNATURE.
To properly understand the magnitude of mankind's arrival in the story we need to understand that nothing was created without purpose. The story makes it clear that everything was created with intentionality. That means, we can view everything God did leading up to the arrival of mankind the same way we view a baby room.
When a couple is expecting a baby, what do you they do? They prepare a room for it. They are excited for the arrival of their child.
When parents prepare a baby room, they furnish it for the child. They paint it colours for the child's enjoyment. They place toys and stuffed animals inside for the child's comfort and delight. They might hang a mobile over the bed to inspire awe and wonder.
This room could look perfect. It could look like the parents dragged and dropped it straight out of Pinterest. Regardless of how spectacular the room looks though, the truth is that room will never accomplish its full purpose until the one it was created for enters into it.
A BABY ROOM NEVER ACCOMPLISHES ITS CREATED PURPOSE UNTIL THE ONE IT WAS CREATED FOR ENTERS INTO IT.
THAT WAS CREATION.
This is what happened in creation. Mankind enters the story, and the story is trying to get us to understand that THEY are different from anything else in the narrative. They are the star of the show. They are the focus. They are central. They are part of the purpose behind everything!
Not only was mankind created to be placed on to the earth, they were created unlike anything else. Most importantly, the intimacy of their design is fully revealed by the fact that the story tells us, they were created in the image of their creator.
This means, they were created to be in a relationship with their creator. To know Him and be known by Him.
Relationship, intimacy, friendship, and connection would all be hungers built into the human. An appetite that we would all long to have filled.
No matter who you are, I think we can all see how true that is of each one of us.
This is amazing! The story truly showcases the intentional love and design for mankind, and how men and women have been set apart. However, regardless of how unique this is, it begs the question, why?
WHY WOULD GOD CREATE MANKIND?
WHY WOULD GOD CREATE SOMETHING HE WANTED TO HAVE RELATIONSHIP WITH?
WAS GOD LONELY?
